Abstract

Scabies is a contagious skin infestation that can persist in communities when misconceptions, delayed recognition, and incomplete contact management remain unaddressed. This study described general scabies knowledge among participants of a community education activity at Posyandu Seruni, Depok, and mapped descriptive patterns according to education and health-information source. A descriptive quantitative evaluation was conducted during the activity on 9 February 2026. The broader program used a 20-item true/false questionnaire covering general scabies knowledge, pharmacological treatment, clean and healthy living behavior, and safe supportive herbal use. This manuscript analyzes the five-item general-knowledge domain because these responses were the most consistently verified. Correct answers received one point and were summarized using frequencies, percentages, mean, median, and minimum-maximum scores. Among 51 analyzable responses, the mean score was 68.2% (median 80.0%; range 20.0-100.0%). Thirty-two participants (62.7%) were categorized as having good knowledge, eight (15.7%) adequate knowledge, and 11 (21.6%) poor knowledge. Correctness was highest for transmission through shared clothes, towels, and bed sheets (82.4%) and lowest for rejecting the misconception that scabies affects only people who rarely bathe (49.0%). The highest descriptive mean by education was observed in the Diploma/Bachelor group (80.0%), while social media had the highest descriptive mean by information source (76.0%); cadres/Posyandu were the most common source (56.9%) but had a mean of 62.8%. The findings indicate a fairly good baseline with persistent stigma-related misconceptions. Targeted cadre messages and validated paired pretest-posttest evaluation are recommended; program effectiveness cannot be inferred because paired pretest-posttest data were not available for verification.
